The stationary phase of the anion exchange column is a positively charged ion exchange resin, such as alkyl amines. When the sample enters the column, the anions will be electrostatically attracted to the positive charge on the stationary phase and are retained on the column. Different anions have different affinities with stationary phases. Anions with strong affinity have long retention time, while anions with weak affinity have short retention time. By changing the composition, pH value or ionic strength of the mobile phase, different anions can be eluted from the chromatographic column in sequence, thereby achieving separation.
